Brian is originally from Zimbabwe and is training to be a lawyer. He makes and designs wirework in his spare time to finance himself through law school and provide financial support for his mother and extended family back in Zimbabwe

When we first met Brian, he was selling his wares on the streets of Cape Town, trying to make ends meet. As a result of the success of our bead & wirework, Brian is now able to work from home, training other would be wire workers and responsibly managing his artistry whilst improving his education.

Rarity is a small design studio and factory employing men and women from surrounding communities to make beautiful handcrafted gameskin bags.

Rarity are respectful of the ecology and the environment. Neither Springbok nor Burchell’s Zebra are endangered. All skins are obtained as part of a legal tender cull and originate as a by product of the sale of meat, sold as a delicacy in Europe and North America, as well as South Africa.

All of these bags are crafted with upmost care from nature using materials sourced through South African wildlife conservation programs. As the end user of these beautiful products, you contribute towards the sustained welfare of African wildlife.

Rarity supports social upliftment  and development through creative expression

Bishop is a master wire artist who makes most of our larger wire sculptures. He has his own stand in a local market and we are supporting him in a bid to make his income less dependent on the seasonal tourist trade.
A range of beautiful contemporary handbags, jewellery and accessories created out of beadwork & crocheted copper wire.

Each item is exquisitely handcrafted by a group of women who are able to make these products in their own homes. By working in their own environment, these crafters are each running their own business and determining for themselves their incomes – many being the sole provider and others, furthering their education or caring for their families members, as they work.
